2022 Draft Preview – let the glory begin
Greetings good people!!
After a disappointing season a brother is ready to turn the page to the PROMISE OF THE FUTURE.
The NBA draft is upon us!
It’s time for the Knicks to propel the roster to HIGHER HEIGHTS.
The draft is today 06/23. The Knicks have the 11 th and 42 nd picks of this year’s draft.
The draft this year is DEEP. The first three picks most likely will see Jabari Smith, Chet Holmgren, and
Paolo Banchero get taken off the board. With the talent pool that’s left here are some pre-draft
thoughts:
11th Overall Pick –Draft TyTy Washington Jr.
So, there has been lots of chatter about the Knicks trading up for Jaden Ivey. When you look at him
there is no questioning his talent. He is a SUPERB athlete that has notable explosiveness (Think Russell
Westbrook and Zach Lavine). The question we must ask ourselves as Knicks fans is:
Will Jaden Ivey fit in as a starting point guard?
After watching this season, it was clear this team had a glaring need for a player to organize the offense.
The Knicks finished last in total assists (1,793) and had the 4 th worst FG% (43.7). To me these statistics
call for a player that will help organize the offense and make great plays. In reviewing this year’s class,
the brother that stands out is TyTy Washington. He’s got good size (6’3 197lbs) and has great vision.
The priority for the Knicks should be the point guard and TyTy should slide right in.
The Knicks should resist the urge to go after yet ANOTHER shooting guard. Right now, we have five —
FIVE — shooting guards on this roster (Barrett, Burks, Fournier, Grimes and Quickley). All great guys but
there isn’t playing time available for all five guards. It’s time to settle on three of five and move two of
these guys to address other needs on the roster (SF and potentially starting center).
Speaking of center…
42 nd Overall Pick – Trade pick to Jazz in the following Blockbuster
Knicks – Receive Rudy Gobert
Jazz Receive – Kemba Walker, Evan Fournier, Alec Burks, Mitchell Robinson, 2022 2nd Round Pick, 2023
1st Round Pick, 2023 Second Round Pick
Time to SOLIDFY THE DEFENSE PEOPLE. Rudy Gobert is a 3-time defensive player of the year. Rudy
would serve an anchor for years to come. Utah starts the rebuild process to move the team in a
different direction. It also gives them ammo to trade Donovan Mitchel to a team craving a star that’s
willing to give up additional assets. Even with this trade we will have a 1 st round pick and 3 second round
picks left.
This also allows us to solidify RJ Barrett as the starting shooting guard and develop him accordingly. We
can have Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin come off the bench and have more defined roles and
consistent playing time. With them coming off the bench as a backup shooting guard, Toppin has a real
shot at future 6th man of the year.
Starting rotation for Knicks can look something like this:
PG – Derrick Rose
SG – RJ Barrett
SF – Cam Reddish
PF Julius Randle
C – Rudy Gobert
That is a lineup for the future people!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let’s bring the winning back to NYC for years to come!!
