Stadium Design
Opened on February 11, 1968 with a salute to the U.S.O. hosted by Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The Arena with it’s famous circular shapeand unique, cable-supported ceiling, providing an intimate feel wasconsidered an engineering marvel for its time. In October 2013, The World’s Most Famous Arena became the world’s most state-of-the-art with the completion of a 3-year, top-to-bottom transformation, ensuring that Madison Square Garden will continue to be the site of historic,unforgettable live experiences for generations to come.
Refurbishment
Led by James Dolan, the Garden’s executive chairman, 2013 saw a three (3) year, $1 billion renovation completed which includes two “Chase Bridges” that run high above and parallel to the length of the event floor, a remodeled Chase Square 7th Avenue entrance that features two 600-square-foot video screens on the ceiling, a state-of-the-art GardenVision scoreboard, new suites and food options, and renovated concourses among many upgrades.
Capacity Seating
Madison Square Garden has a seating capacity of 19,738 that includes 540 club seats and 89 luxury suites. It is the only single level bowl arena in the NBA
Did You Know?
The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden seats between 2,000 and 5,600 for concerts and can also be used for meetings, stage shows, and graduation ceremonies. It was the home of the NFL Draft until 2005, when it moved to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. It also hosted the NBA Draft from 2001 to 2010.

It hosted the Grammy Awards in 1972, 1997, 2003 and 2018 (which are normally held in Los Angeles
The fall 1999 Jeopardy! Teen Tournament as well as a Celebrity Jeopardy! competition were held at the theater. Wheel of Fortune taped at the theater twice in 1999 and 2013. In 2004, it was the venue of the Survivor: All-Stars finale.
The Garden has hosted three WrestleManias, more than any other arena, including the first edition of the annual marquee event for WWE, as well as the 10th and 20th editions. It also hosted the Royal Rumble in 2000 and 2008; SummerSlam in 1988, 1991 and 1998; as well as Survivor Series in 1996, 2002 and 2011.
